English Squad Training 2010 - Something for everyone.

Monday, January 18, 2010

Squad training is starting again this weekend and we are hoping to build on the successes of previous years and hopefully put to bed some misconceptions that exist about it - read on!

Squad training is a fantastic opportunity for students and instructors of all ages and experience to enjoy another aspect of your Taekwon-Do training.  At present, the door is wide open for anyone who would like to get involved, whether to improve for national competitions or international selection.
There can often be a misconception that squad training is elitist and only for those who definitely want to go on internationals. Squad is essentially a Jee-Goo session, which gives you the chance to relax and just train, working with different people and instructors. If international opportunities come out of it, then that's a bonus. I would encourage any black belt who enjoys training to come along, because you never know what might happen!
The sessions cover all aspects of competitions and are not designed to 'kill' everyone participating - that would be detrimental to those training and therefore defy the point of the whole thing.

The majority of squad sessions take place in Loughborough, because it is centrally based, but we are keen to take it on the road. Would you like to host a session? All you need to do is book the hall and we'll do the rest - speak to your instructor if you would like a session in your area..

Nationally this year, we have our GTUK Individuals, GTUK Regionals and GTUK University Champs. Plus, for the first time in many years, GTUK Scotland are hosting their own Goodwill International Shield in Edinburgh. In addition to all of this, we would like to take a men's and ladies' team to an ITF tournament in Spain.

The first squad session of 2010 will be in Loughborough on Sunday 24th January.  Training will commence every weekend thereafter or as the calendar of events permits. All further details, venues, times etc will be posted on the website.

I really hope to see some new faces at the forth-coming sessions. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
